The Northern California Conference of the UCC declared itself an
Open and Affirming Conference at its Annual Meeting in 1992.
The text of the statement follows:

The 1992 Annual Meeting of the Northern California Conference of the United Church of Christ:

    1. Declares the Conference to be an Open and Affirming Conference, assuring the full inclusion, participation, and rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual persons in the Conference, including but not limited to membership, ordination, ministerial standing, and full employment opportunity within the life of the Conference,

    2. Encourages the churches of the Conference to continue or enter into study possibly leading toward adoption of an inclusive, non-discrimination policy and a covenant of openness and affirmation which welcomes and accepts lesbian, gay and bisexual persons as full participants within the community of faith and acknowledges their gifts and intrinsic worth, and

    3.  Directs the Parish Life and Work Commission to send resource/study packets to churches that do not have them, provided with monies from the Friends of Open and Affirming, and assess and report progress toward implementation of this position statement.
