WELCOME FROM OUR CONFERENCE MODERATOR, REV. KYLE LOVETT Welcome to the 2006 Annual Meeting webpage, which will be the source to assist you in your planning and preparation for the 2006 Annual Meeting of the Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ. Annual Meeting 2006 will be held May 18-21 at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA. Before 2005, registration and information packets were snail-mailed to every person who had attended the Annual Meeting the previous year. Last year only churches received the registration materials by snail mail. We also began using the Conference database to send email notices of Annual Meeting and postcards announcing registration dates and deadlines. Registration materials were posted here on the conference website (www.ncncucc.org), and registration was accepted via phone, fax, and email, as well as by snail-mail. For the 2006 Annual meeting, this website will be the primary way we communicate with you as delegates and visitors as you prepare for Annual Meeting. This year we will again send registration materials only to local churches asking them to make the materials available to all who are interested. The registration forms are posted here. Updates about the gathering will be posted as they become available. Look here for the proposed Annual Meeting Rules, the Guidelines for Submitting Proposals to Annual Meeting, the Draft Agenda, the Business Items coming before the body, reflections on our theme, biographical information about ourspeakers, Display Table information and answers to FAQs. This method, perhaps not ideal, has some real advantages. Admittedly, one driving force behind this change is the financial savings to the Annual Meeting budget and, ultimately, to you. Moving in this direction also allows all our members, those who are attending Annual Meeting and those who are not, the opportunity to have all of the advance materials and be aware of the business that the Annual Meeting will be considering and reflect on the theme we will be digging into while gathered together at Asilomar. Using the website will also mean that this information will be available in a more timely fashion than has been possible in previous years. In the past, you received the Annual Meeting information in January and then the next mailing was not until mid-April. This year information will be posted on the website as soon as it is available, which will give you more time to study, discuss and prepare for our time together at Asilomar. We also will try to find ways to reduce the amount of paper that we generate onsite… The Annual Meeting of the Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ will convene on Thursday, May 18, and adjourn at 12:00 noon on Sunday, May 21, in Pacific Grove, California at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Our theme for this time together is "In Covenant… God is Still Speaking," For registration information, please contact Joy Davis at 510-247-8995, Annual Meeting Registrar. For the Annual Meeting Planning Team, please contact Rev. Kyle Lovett at 415-731-9333.
Annual Meeting is the annual meeting of the Northern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ. Voting delegates include lay persons chosen by their local churches and ministers with standing in the NCNC-UCC. Visitors include lay persons from local churches, ministers with standing in other UCC Conferences and other denominations, leaders of Conference-wide Committees, working groups, and Network Ministries. We meet every year to consider the business of the church and its relationship with the wider world as well as to deepen and strengthen our ties to each other and to the wider church. At the Annual Meeting, the Goal Budget for the Conference is voted on for the coming fiscal year, nominees for Conference-wide volunteer ministries are voted into office, and [action items / resolutions / ____] are considered by the gathered body. Because every UCC congregation is self-governing, these latter action items speak "to" but not "for" the local church. We look forward to seeing you at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the NCNC-UCC at Asilomar! (check back on this web page regularly to get information as it becomes available) |
