A Journey toward Vital Ministry - Ready, Set, Grow!
Charlene J. Smith

Vital congregations understand who they are, who God is calling them to be and develop vital ministries that impact the congregation and the community. Vital ministry doesn’t happen overnight. It is a journey filled with detours, road blocks, rest stops and accomplishments. Participants learned about the Congregational Vitality Initiative — Ready, Set, Grow. Use this process to move your church further on the road to becoming a sustainable vital congregation today and in the future. The presentation contains questions, ideas, and suggestions on how to continue your church’s journey toward spirituality, vitality and growth.

Mixing It Up: What Kind of Worship Reaches 21st Century Seekers?
Rev. David Grishaw-Jones

This focus group explored the tension between Reformed tradition and 21st century hunger. How might local congregations experiment with new styles to reach huge groups of seekers and disaffected pilgrims? What’s the role of traditional worship in the contemporary setting? Is it possible to do both? Dave Grishaw‐Jones and worship leaders from FCC Santa Cruz led this focus group on the role of worship in the funky, weird, left coast, progressive, “Still Speaking” world of the United Church of Christ.
