Confession
I’m a Synod junkie. I started out only doing Synod as a Delegate. But then I did Synod as an Associate Delegate. Now I do Synod on my own, just for the fun of it, any chance I get. I don’t know how long it’s been since I skipped doing Synod.
I go there a day or two early so I can participate in a pre-Synod event. For the past bunch of Synods, I’ve been convening the Conference Moderators and Presidents gathering. This is a great way to meet UCC folk from other Conferences. Hanging out in the display room, watching the Synod do its business, Tweeting about what’s happening, being a gad fly. It’s all fun. And then there’s the worship. Yes, we’re in a big convention hall, but somehow, when we gather for worship, the space is transformed into a church and God is praised and we are nourished.
And then there are workshops and volunteer activities. Last Synod I was having so much fun, I didn’t get into town much at all. This time, I’m going to extend my stay a bit (or go a bit early) and see some of Long Beach and/or the surrounding area.
