Lenten Devotions in Hard Economic Times

TWELFTH DAY OF LENT
               MARCH 2

 Isaiah 55: 2
 Luke 13: 5, 9

In the noisy overcrowded neighborhood of now,
Where the airways are bloated,
Supersaturated with sound,
Where demands fly at us, yammering,
Where conflicts within our scope of interest,
Eddy away our edifying plans,
The ultimatum comes.
The preemptory demand.

The time is now.
The moment is right here.

Repent,
And bear fruit.

No more lurches and equivocations,
No more sidling around the urgent,
No more dawdling and dallying with
The useless,
The futile,
The unrewarding,
The fruitLESS.

Turn away
From that

Which does not satisfy,
But depletes you,
And leaves you
Less than
Whole.
