Lenten Devotions in Hard Economic Times

SEVENTEENTH DAY OF LENT
                    MARCH 8

 Luke 5: 18-20

Just then some men came, carrying a paralyzed man on a bed.
They were trying to bring him in and lay him before Jesus;
But finding no way to bring him in because of the crowd,
They went up on the roof and let him down with his bed
Through the tiles
Into the middle of the crowd
In front of Jesus.

When I was paralyzed,
My friends came through.
Through the roof.

When I could not move,
When I was incontrovertibly

Stuck,
Inflexible,
Maybe not so much in body
As in soul,
Not yet in rigor mortis,
But definitely in rigor spiritus,
They came,
Hulking angels.

Crashing through clay,
Finding a way,
Plopping me,
In front of
Grace.
