Lenten Devotions in Hard Economic Times
EIGHTEENTH DAY OF LENT
MARCH 9
Luke 5: 3b, 27
"Follow me."
We are called away
From the familiar,
With its comforts.
We are called away,
From the customary,
With its daily debasements.
We are called to
Follow,
To go behind,
To tag along,
To pursue,
WHATEVER it is that brings
Comfort
To the comfortless,
That purges the base metal
With its corrosion and corruption,
From the alloy that is humankind,
Rendering us into a substance
That is precious,
And resilient,
Enhanced in all its properties.
