Lenten Devotions in Hard Economic Times
THIRTIETH DAY OF LENT
MARCH 23
Luke 19: 36, 38-39
As Jesus rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road, saying, "Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Most High! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven!"
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him,
"Teacher, order your disciples to stop."
Stop! Cease!
Put an end to this clamor.
Jesus has mowed a wide swath
Through the weed-choked
Route to redemption.
Skillfully wielding the
Scythe of grace,
He has cleared the way
For repentant reprobates
And untutored infants,
For the defiled
And the desperate.
Now they greet him,
Aroar with joy,
Paving his path
With honor.
Along the coastline
Of
Privilege,
The storm surge
Of estrangement
Breaks.
Unstoppable.
