Lenten Devotions in Hard Economic Times

THIRTY-FIFTH DAY OF LENT
               MARCH 29

 Hebrews 10: 24-25a

Let us consider how to provoke one another
to love and good deeds,
not neglecting to meet together…
but encouraging one another.

Encourage,
Enhearten,
Take heart,
Oh brothers and sisters,
Whenever we gather,
Proffer sips of restoration,
Tastes of reconciliation,
Dollops of joy,
A sampling of what is to come,
When at last justice holds sway,
Compassion reigns.

Encourage,
Enhearten,
And relentlessly provoke, taunt,
Incite, wheedle, and aggravate
One another,
To greater and greater
Expressions of love,
Strewn wildly on the winds of freedom,
Smeared with a toddler’s exuberance,
Over the face of the earth.

Great swallows of restoration,
Feasts of reconciliation,
Heaps of joy.
Now and forever
More.
