Sophia DeWitt wins MLK Service Award

NCNC Conference Moderator Sophia DeWitt was honored in January by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Committee of Fresno with an Outstanding Citizen Service Award.

Sophia is Director of Health, Housing and Senior Services and principle grant writer at Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (www.fresnoirm.org). She began at FIRM in 2004 as director of the Hmong Health Project, a position to which she was ordained by the Sequoia Association in four way covenant with First Congregational UCC, Fresno. With a team from FIRM, Sophia has traveled twice to Laos on two-week-long mission trips, providing training for church leaders in disabilities.  Sophia has served on the NCNC Overview Board for Justice and Witness and has been a delegate to General Synod.
